Series: The Murderbot Diaries
5 stars
From Goodreads:
Murderbot returns in its highly-anticipated, first, full-length standalone novel.
You know that feeling when you’re at work, and you’ve had enough of people, and then the boss walks in with yet another job that needs to be done right this second or the world will end, but all you want to do is go home and binge your favorite shows? And you’re a sentient murder machine programmed for destruction? Congratulations, you’re Murderbot.
Come for the pew-pew space battles, stay for the most relatable A.I. you’ll read this century.
I’m usually alone in my head, and that’s where 90 plus percent of my problems are.
When Murderbot’s human associates (not friends, never friends) are captured and another not-friend from its past requires urgent assistance, Murderbot must choose between inertia and drastic action.
Drastic action it is, then.
My Thoughts
Oh I love Murderbot! Martha Wells has created such a relatable and loveable character. He is full of scorn, sass and it is stubborn beyond belief but that’s what makes Murderbot really special is above anything else he just wants time to himself to watch his favourite shows in peace and quiet.
I have made no secret how much I adore this series and this full length novel, instead of the standard Novella that this series, is a real treat. It really delves deep into Murderbots thoughts and feelings towards his new found freedom, developing friendships, dealing with emotions, dealing with grief. All of these are so detailed and nuanced, with recognisable behaviour that is so fun to explore from Murderbot’s perspective.
It really takes you on an journey, I found myself on the edge on my seat, furiously flicking through the pages to find out what happens next. My heart was in my throat during the action scenes. I also found myself laughing out loud and Murderbot’s quips and generally just loving every minute I was reading.
Great review! I must say, that is the most entertaining blurb ever 😂 I love it already!
