October – Ten Book TBR

September was a bit of a slump month in terms of reading for me. I never felt like I wanted to pick up a book instead I found myself engrossed in the world of The Adventure Zone podcast. In October I want to get back into my TBR. I have a lot of ARCs this month as well as a some spooky reads for the season. I also have quite a few new realises finding there way to me this month as well as two author events. So it will be a busy bookish month.

earcs

The biggest category by far this month. I have quite a few new releases for October and then I have a few to catch up with as well. Luckily, I have already managed to tick one off the list already, and it was a great start.

The Black Hawks
David Wragg
Release Date : 3rd October

I have already finished and reviewed this one here. I really enjoyed this band of misfits and their adventure and I am really looking forward to the next instalment.

The Beautiful
Renee Ahdieh
Release Date: 8th October

Vampires are back and just in time for Halloween. I have heard mixed things about this one so far and I am not the biggest fan of Ahdieh’s writing (I DNF’d Flame in the Mist) so I am a little worried about this one.

Doing Time
Jodi Taylor
Release Data: 17th October

This sounds right up my street! A police procedural with Time travel, yes please. This is a spin off of Jodi Taylor’s St Mary’s series, which I have not read but it has been on my TBR for some time. I am hoping that I will enjoy this and it will prompt me to start the St Mary’s series.

The Black Mage
Daniel Barnes and DJ Kirkland
Release Date: 29th October

A graphic novel based around history, race with magic mixed in seems like a great read for this time of year. The art work looks amazing and I am looking forward to diving in to the story.

Deeplight
Frances Hardinge
Release Date: 31st October

I have read a couple of Hardinge’s books before and they both have been beautifully written and have a dark edge to them that is just awesome. With talk of Gods and Monsters and a distinctly nautical theme to the cover it seems promising.

Girls of Storm and Shadow
Natasha Ngan
Release Date: 5th November

I have to admit when I was awarded access to this ARC I had not read Girls of Paper and Fire. I still haven’t finished it but I did start it at the end of September and have been loving it so far so I am actually looking forward to just getting to continue on.

Series To Finish

DarkDawn
Jay Kristoff

Yes I haven’t finished this yet! to be honest I am kinda scared as I really don’t want to get to the end. I adore this series and I am awful at actually finishing series as I hate when things end. I will get to this I just need to give myself recovery time afterwards., as I know I will need it.

Library

White Cat
Holly Black

I have actually finished this one and it was a great fast paced read. I started it in late September and completed it on the 2nd. I do love a good heist which this book has elements of and I really love the magic system. I should have my review up shortly but I did enjoy this one.

fairyloot

Girls of Paper and Fire
Natasha Ngan
October 2018 Fairyloot

This is a really old Fairyloot from all the way back from October 2018. As you saw above I have an eARC of the next in the series. I have started this book at the end of September and am loving the narrative and the world building. I am looking forward to finishing both of these books this month.

Serpent and Dove
Shelby Mahurin

As above I have heard this is a great dark read and I also really want to join in on the Fairyloot readalong. I haven’t actually joined in one one and that seems like i am missing out on the community so I am hoping this month I can dive in and share this book with the group.

So that is my month. I am hoping I can fit in a few mysteries and some spooky reads at the end of the month if the all the ARC reading goes well but we will just have to see.

What do you have on your TBR this month?
