From Goodreads:

Wildness is a kind of magic

Daine has always had a special connection with animals, but only when she’s forced to leave home does she realize it’s more than a knack . . . it’s magic. With this wild magic, not only can Daine speak to animals, but she can also make them obey her. Daine takes a job handling horses for the Queen’s Riders, where she meets the master mage Numair and becomes his apprentice.

Under Numair’s guidance, Daine explores the scope of her magic. But she encounters other beings, too, who are not so gentle. These terrifying creatures, called Immortals, have been imprisoned in the Divine Realms for the past four hundred years – but now someone has broken the barrier. And it’s up to Daine and her friends to defend their world from an Immortal attack.

Discover a land of enchantment, legend, and adventure in this first book of The Immortals series, featuring an updated cover – perfect for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

My Thoughts

There is a magical talking Badger in this book and not one of you told me! I picked this book up on a whim. I was doing Becca’s 48hr Bookoplathon and I needed a short YA Fantasy to fill the prompt, and there was this gem sitting in the 99p deal of the day! It was fate. I am so glad I did.

This is just such a magical book. It has such an awesome magic system, especially if you are an animal lover. It also has some awesome characters, so supportive and protective to each other there is a real found family aspect to this book which is heartwarming. Infact, the full kingdom is like one big found family, open and welcoming. Its also great if you have a love of sassy talking animals trope, training montages and everyone coming together to fight a big bad!

Overall I really really enjoyed it. While on the younger side of YA I can see it as a series that would really grow with the reader. I became really invested in the backstories of all we met and how they came to be part of the kingdom of Tortall and I am definitely going to be picking up the rest of the series (I am eyeing up those pretty black matching paperbacks).

I mean magical talking BADGERS, people!

I would love to chat all things bookish with you! You can comment down below or find me on Twitter or Goodreads!

Happy Reading!

  1. If you need me I will be here laughing about how excited you are about the talking badgers. And for some reason it makes me wanna read even more books with talking animals. I just love those. Which probably means that I would like this one too?
