WWW Wednesday 21/10/20

If I am being honest I haven’t read all week. I haven’t managed more than a couple of pages over the past 10 days or so which means I am officially in a dreaded reading slump. I am just finding it very difficult to concentrate. I think that it is because I am in the reading phase of my current project at work. This means I am spending the majority of my day sifting through, reading and analyzing scientific papers so when I close my laptop at the end of the day I am just wanting to do anything but read. I also cannot listen to Audiobooks while i am in this phase of the project so no recreational reading is being done.

I am also putting a lot of free time into plotting and planning for my own book and my goals for NaNoWriMo. I am really loving how the story is shaping and I am finding myself drawn to making little notes and adding information to that than to picking up the books I have to read.

Therefore instead of answering all the questions this week I am just putting up the books I am currently reading in hopes that I actually finish them this week.

Happy Wednesday!

Its that time of the Week again! WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme that was revived by Taking on a World of Words. I like it cause it is fairly simple but allows me to check in with my reading but also with you!

WWW Wednesday asks just three questions:

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

WHAT BOOK HAVE YOU RECENTLY FINISHED?

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU WILL READ NEXT?

The Once and Future Witches
Alix E. Harrow

eArc

I am so far behind on this eARC that its shamefull. This is an absolutely stunning read so far. Again 2020 is just delivering on the book from with hit after hit for me and this is another one that is really in the running for best read of the year (Honestly I might just have to have multiple categories so they can all be no 1). I am finding that I can only read this in little chunks as I want to just be absorbed but I don’t have the time or the brain power at the moment. I have a holiday coming up so I am hoping to just let it sweep me away then.

To Sleep in a Sea of Star
Christopher Paolini

Gifted Finished copy

Yes I still haven’t finished this chonker. I was really enjoying it but put it down to finish Addie la Rue and due to my slump I haven’t hefted it back onto my lap again.

I haven’t read a Paolini before so i cant compare to his fantasy series but I am really liking the writing style. I may need to root out the audiobook for this one and just finish it as I do really need to know how it ends.

Kingdom of the Wicked
Kerri Maniscalco

eARC

I am actually ahead on this eARC but only slightly. I have read the first couple of chapters of this and I am really intrigued by it. The worldbuilding so far has been super interesting. It has that dark YA fantasy vibe that I have been craving and I think this is going to be the easiest for me to finish at them moment in my current mindset. However, all the talk of food in the first couple of chapters did have me craving delicious homemade Italian food.

The Palace Job
Patrick Weekes

This one is taking me a little longer to read as I am reading it in preparation for NaNoWriMo. If you read my Five Fantasy Heist books post you would see I am planning to write my own fantasy Heist Novel and that I am reading other Fantasy heist novels to get an idea of how to plot out the pacing of my own twists and reveals. I am therefore stopping and taking notes, highlighting what structural elements I think would work and all the ideas for my own story as I read so I am only really moving at a chapter a night.

So that is my WWW post for this week. I will see you next Wednesday to update you. What are you reading this week? Have you finished anything lately you loved?

I would love to chat all things bookish with you! You can comment down below or find me on Twitter or Goodreads!

Happy Reading!

  1. I’ve never actually taken part in NaNoWriMo. Have you done it before? How much stress is ist really? ๐Ÿค”

I haven’t had much reading time lately either. I just don’t really feel like it lately. Especially on the weekends when I would have time…just don’t feel like it. But it seems like you are doing rather well with your current reads, don’t you? Come on, you can do it! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I attempted Nanowrimo last year but I didn’t really have a plot layed out so I just pants my way through and got to about 25k (by the 16th) before I ran out of steam and out of ideas. I didn’t find it too stressful as I would write only on my commute. Work did get kind of stressful at the end of the month which is prob why I didn’t try to get the 50 k

This year I am obviously working from home so no commute but I am going write at the same time. 90mins in the morning 90mins in the evening. And I have a full outline this time too. Also I switched jobs and this job is a lot less stressful so I am hoping I can do it.

      Thank you for the encouragement!
