From Goodreads:

The family curse has been lifted and the Widdershins sisters: Betty, Fliss and Charlie are free to leave the prison island of Crowstone. But when a mysterious girl arrives at the Poacher’s Pocket with a pocketful of hagstones and accompanied by a will-o’-the-wisp, it seems another adventure has landed on their doorstep. And when Charlie goes missing, it’s up to Betty and Fliss to journey through misty marches, past wisp catchers and on to a secret island that doesn’t exist on any map…

My Thoughts

This was such a fun sequel. We are straight back into the action and this time there is a quest for hidden treasure, kidnap, pirates, witches and more. Left only with a Pinch of Magic from their last adventure we follow the Widdershin’s sisters into trouble again. I just love the dynamic between the three sisters. They each have such distinct personalities that leap off the page but also have a great love for eachother.

The plot of this one wasn’t as dark as the first, I really enjoyed the more magical riddle solving aspects. My favourite aspect of these books have to be the old tales of Crowstone, the fairy tales that the girls grew up with. I love how we get little bits of the fairytale as Betty remembers it and how it played into the overall story. It is really well crafted story telling.

For me the ending had a little bitter sweetness to it. I do wish we had got more about how it it all wrapped up and where we will be going next but it does seem there is more adventure instore for the Widdershin’s sisters.
