Second Books I loved!

Its Twosday! Today’s Date is the 22nd of the 2nd month of the year 2022, which if you write in the British format makes it a palindromic

22.02.2022

Which is just aesthetically pleasing. So taking inspiration from that I am talking about a few 2nd books in series that I loved just as much or more than the first in the series. Books that don’t suffer from soggy middle syndrome. But instead made me love the series even more and got me excited to read more and more from the series.

Moon Over Soho
Ben Aaronovich

River’s of London #2

My Review

Jazz Vampires! Do I really need to say more?

Ok fine. While book one introduced us to Peter and the Folly, the Rivers and Magical London, this book expands it. We explore the area of Soho and its history in the music scene. We learn so much about this side of London’s history. We also get lots of insight into Peter’s family as well as the start of the battle with the Faceless Man, the arc spanning villain of the series. And the Ending is just perfect!

Artificial Condition
Martha Wells

The Murderbot Diaries #2

My Review

This is one of my favourite books of this series. It is where we are introduced to ART (Asshole Research Transport) and I LOVE ART. I also adore Murderbot and the sass from both of them has my heart!

Shadowblack
Sebastian De Castell

Spellslinger Book #2

My Review

This one probably made me laugh the most out of the whole series. I still chuckle about the bath Scene and if you have read the book you will know what I mean. De Castell perfectly balances the light and the dark in this one and I love how much we learn about Ferius, Kellen and Reichis in this one.

A Symphony of Echoes
Jodi Taylor

Chronicles of St Mary’s #2

The Jack the Ripper Scene still haunts me it is so creepy and tense! We get so much deeper into the first major story arc in this book, getting to explore St Mary’s and its inner workings. It also has the fun balance of Dodo hunts to darker moments like the Jack the ripper incident. I need to re-read this series! Also to review it too!

The Ghost Brigades
John Scalzi

Old Man’s War #2

This is my favourite book of the series. We switch from following John Perry to diving into the special forces unit knowing as the Ghost Brigades. We explore so many interesting topics like human conscience, memory, human evolution, artificial evolution and what makes a human human. All wrapped in a mystery style storyline.

Yes all of these books come from my favourite series but there is a reason I love them. They all a just such strong stories that keep you entertained from start to finish, including those middle books!
