First Impressions – The Hidden King

Hi all! I know I haven’t blogged for a good while. I unfortunately caught covid at the beginning of August which due to other conditions I have has caused a bit of a health crisis for me. I have also had a very hectic week at work which required all of my focus, leading student examinations, being involved with an internal conference I unfortunately just have not had the energy to read. I want to apologise to both The Write Reads and E.G. Radcliff for not finishing this book in time. But now that my health is improving I am very excited to finish them as I have loved what I have read so far.

Title: The Hidden King

Author: E. G. Radcliff

Series: The Coming of Aed #1

From Goodreads:

On the shores of a rusty sea, in the streets of a starving city, a young man named Áed scraps to build a life for himself and the makeshift family he loves. Scarred by a trauma he cannot remember, and haunted by the brutal damage it left behind, he has no idea of the courage his future will demand.

When tragedy strikes, a desperate Áed risks a treacherous, life-changing journey in his last chance to save the only family he has left – but an ancient legacy smoldering within him is about to turn deadly. Neither he – nor a kingdom – will ever be the same..

My First Thoughts

I am not very far into this book, only managing to get to chapter 3 before having to write up this spotlight (though it is the most I have read all August) but it has really captured me.

We have so far had chapters from Ninnian and Aed’s pointes of view and I love how the distinct differences in their personality are. I found myself so interested to learn about both of them as individuals as well as learning about their relationship. Ninnian is headstrong, we see them as the fighter, while Aed is more the caregiver, and emotionally strong. Both of them play off of each other really well in the first chapters.

Even in the chapters I have read there is so much that has captured my attention. The worldbuilding is so fascinating We have got really intriguing snippets of the city and the world and even some backstory for our characters.

All have made me really want to dive into this series as I think I am going to fall in love with these characters and the world.

For those that have Kindle Unlimited the whole series is available and now that I am feeling better and getting back into reading I am excited to continue with this book and the series.
