I am so proud of my house for reading over 800 books in April to win the House Cup!
I had so much fun with this readathon reading so many good books. I definitely found some new favourites and they will be added to my need to re-read list. I also deviated from my TBR – I don’t know why I make them I suck at actually sticking to them – see what I read below to find out what changed.
Wrap – up Stats
Books: 11
I matched Hermione and sat all 11 Owls minus Divination. I just couldn’t squeeze that book in on time.
Pages: 4065
This was lower than the original 5000+ pages i aimed to read with my TBR but I swapped out a few of the larger books I wasn’t in the mood to tackle.
Ratings:
All of my books were really highly rated I honestly didn’t read a bad book in this month which is why i think it was so enjoyable and easy to move from good book to good book. I have no ratings under 3 stars.
5 Stars: 3
4 Stars : 5
3.5 Stars: 2
3 Stars : 1
What I Read
Here I am going to do a quick recap of what I read in the month of April. I will have mini spoiler free reviews for each of these going up over the next month. I will link these back here once they are live so check back if you are interested in any of these books
I finished:
Ancient Runes – A book with a symbol on the cover
I swapped The Darkest Minds – Alexandra Bracken for Sabriel – Garth Nix. I really enjoyed this book and will be continuing with the series.
4 stars
Arithmacy – Read a book with a number on the cover or in the title
Another swap where I substituted The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle – Stuart Turton, which i just couldnt get into and put down after 50 pages (though i will be picking it back up when i hav’e more focus as its complicated) for The Third Girl by Agatha Christie. Not one of the best Poirot but still enjoyable.
3.5 Stars
Astronomy – Read a science fiction novel
All our Wrong Todays – Elan Mastai. This was such and interesting book filled with twist and turns.
4 Stars
Care of Magical Creatures – Read a book that includes magical creatures
I had to return Borne – Jeff Vandermeer to the library before i got a change to really get into it so I picked up the trusty back up for this book and read Fantastic beasts and where to find them – JK Rowling. I decided to get the audio book of this one from my library as it was read by Eddie Redmayne. I am always going to love the wizarding world.
5 Stars
Charms – Read a fantasy book
Children of Blood and Bone – Tomi Adeyemi. Wow 5 stars. This is all that really needs to be said. I loved this book, I highly recommend it.
5 Stars!!!!
Defence Against the Dark Arts – Book about/featuring secret societies/clubs.
Mr Penumbra’s 24-hour Bookstore – Robin Sloan. Enjoyable with a few caveats iIwill discuss in my review (to be posted- check back).
3.5 Stars
Herbology – Read a book with a nature related word in the title
The Hazel Wood – Melissa Albert. Another highly enjoyable read that kept the pages turning. While i ma mixed in my thoughts on this one i still think it was worth my rating.
4 stars
History of Magic – Read a historical fiction
My final subsitution was City of Brass – S.A Chakraborty for Lair of Dreams – Libba Bray. Lair of Dreams was on hold in my library and it finally came in and I just couldnt miss my chance to keep reading this series. I am holding off buying this series due to the ever changing covers. I did not enjoy this one as much as the first book. I think it suffered a little from 2nd book slump.
3 stars
Muggle Studies – Read a muggle non-fiction book
Persepolis – Marjane Satrapi. This was such an interesting way to portray the various stages of Satrapi’s experiences over her life. it was distinctive in style but also very informative.
4 stars
Potions – Read a book about/with alchemy
Strange the Dreamer – Laini Taylor. I finally read it! why did i wait so long! It nearly reading slumped me. I read it mid month and took sometime to recover from the book.
5 Stars
Transfiguration – Read a book that deals with transfiguration/shapeshifting or similar theme
To Kill a Kingdom – Alexandra Christo. It seems like it is going to be the summer of mermaids with a number of Little mermaid based books coming out in the next few months. i loved the start of this book and was a 5 star till the end where it dropped a little.
4 stars
And that is it! I am very happy about all the books a read. This readathon was so much fun and I am so happy with everything I have read. I cant wait for the NEWTs!
I will slowly be working through all my mini reviews and will have them up shortly.
