This weeks top five Wednesday topic is the five books you want to read before 2019. I have partially answered this question in my End of the year book tag.
I have some amazing books still on my TBR. As 2018 saw me leaving being a student behind and forging my way into financial security, my personal library expanded exponentially. Therefore, my TBR has quite a few books I really want to get to.
I am going to exclude the four books mentioned in my End of the year book tag
a) To make this post more interesting
b) I am getting to most of them during Tome Topple/ One Readathon to Rule them All (TBRs to follow this week) so I know I will be reading them soon.
If you don’t want to scroll back to my end of the year tag to get all my answers the four were:
Lies Sleeping by Ben Aaronovich
The Poppy War by R.F Kuang
Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor
The Consuming Fire by John Scalzi
Here are, in no particular order, some of the most anticipated books of this year that I have yet to read and that I am really keen to finish before 2018 does:
Girls of Paper and Fire
Natasha Ngan
I received this in my October FairyLoot box as the most beautiful exclusive signed edition with hot pink sprayed edges. I have been anticipating the release of this book for quite a while, it just sounds like such an amazing Asian inspired fantasy with some kick ass ladies loving ladies. I love reading fantasy in the winter and I can just see myself curling up with a spiced wine/cider/hot chocolate and escaping into this book.
Shadow of the Fox
Julie Kagawa
Sticking with the winter of Asian based fantasy, I have also been very interested in this book. It was released in the US in early October but was not released in the UK until the 1/11/18 and due to my holiday I couldn’t pick up my pre-order till this week. I have peeked at the first few pages of this and it seems fascinating so it is firmly on the end of the year TBR.
Even the Darkest Stars
Heather Fawcett
Another Fairyloot book but shamefully this one is from last year! As the year is coming to a close, the wet weekends and dark evening are here and I have been searching my TBR shelves for those wintery feeling fantasies and this one jumped out, the cover just gives that crisp winter feel and the promise of avalanches and ice chasms moves it on to this list.
Nevernight
Jay Kristoff
I know, I know I haven’t read this yet! I need to get to it and ever darkening nights could use a nice dark fantasy to dive into so i have promised myself I will get to this one.
Head on
John Scalzi
Finally, just to change direction and that is a decision nothing to do with the weather or my reading mood is but more a 2018 release I just haven’t found time for yet despite owning multiple copies. I love Scalzi’s work and to have two releases in 2018 both of which I haven’t read is terrible for one of my favourite authors so I will be making time for some Sci-fi in my fantasy binge these last 6 weeks of 2018.
Well those are the nine books I want to get to before the end of the year.
What books are on your list?
Happy Reading
