My Thoughts
This was somewhat of a surprise, DRM free short story from Tor! I only heard about this on Jan 28th on twitter, and as a Garth Nix fan (one of my kittens is named Mogget) I looked it up and found out it was out on the 29th and I thought oh perfect and order it.
Oh what a tasty yet teasing little moresel that was! All the trappings of a Holmes mystery mixed with a healthy does of magic and mythology. It was chocked full of worldbuilding and hinted at wonderful side stories. I would happily revisit Magnus and Susan. They had such a well developed back story that hinted at such a wider world it’s almost cruel that this is a short story only.
I read this on my commute and it was a perfect escape. Garth Nix just knows how to pull you into a tale and set up a world. This left me wanting whole novels filled with the tales of these characters! Also the cover are by Micah Epstein is just gorgeous!
