May 2020 Wrap up

Oh the slump was real in May. My selected TBR was almost completely abandoned, while I did successfully complete my set prompts for medieval-athon and read two tomes during Tome topple. I think it was those big books that really slowed my reading pace down but I loved them. But quality of books wise it was a smashing with lots of fun and fantastic reads.

WHAT I READ –

Jodi Taylor

Chronicles of st Mary’s #6

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

I adore this series, it just keeps giving and giving and this book is no different and the super hinty cliff hanger ending the end was fantastic! I was super lucky to receive the next in the series for my birthday and its so difficult not to just pick them up now and forget my June TBR.

Ships and Stings and Wedding Rings
Jodi Taylor

Chronicles of st Mary’s #6.5

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I really enjoy this world and I love there are tonnes of little short stories to keep you going in between novels. This one had me crying with laughter! It was just that perfect blend of tension and mischief these books always have.

Tilly and the Bookwanderers
Anna James

Rating: 5 out of 5.

This was purely delightful, filled with twists and turns literary references. it was just a joy to read. Its such a well crafted and well written tale which just had me captivated. I am hoping I can visit the British Under Library again soon. I read this as part of Middle Grade Marvels bookclub.

The Final Empire
Brandon Sanderson

Mistborn #1

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Damn Sanderson can write a book. I really enjoyed this. His world building is just so detailed and his magic systems are so interesting. This also had a proper heist feel to it with great twists and turns. Another one I will have to pick up the sequel for soon.

The Shadows Between Us
Tricia Levenseller

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

This isn’t my usual read, I am not one for romance reads or angsty romance but I really enjoyed it. It was a fun read. A little predictable but it was nice to see such a feisty MC.

The hand on the wall
Maureen Johnson

Truly Devious #3

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was a great conclusion to the series. Another book I really enjoyed this month. This series is just so readable and I powered through this in just over a day. I loved the use of flashbacks in this one.

The worst witch
Jill Murphy

Worst Witch #1

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Nostalgia trip! I found my copies of this series and I just had to read them. I loved this series growing up and It was just so lovely returning to it. There was so much more than I remembered.

The worst witch strikes again
Jill Murphy

Worst witch #2

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I didn’t remember the events of this one as much as others in the series. Still filled with all the fun and whimsy I expected but I was just surprised how little I remembered maybe because it just wasn’t as exciting.

A Bad spell for the Worst Witch
Jill Murphy

Worst Witch #3

Rating: 5 out of 5.

When I think of the worst witch this is the one I remember. It was definitely my favorite in my youth and probably my favorite in my re-reads. It is just such a fun caper.

    1. It was an interesting one. Very hard to describe as it was a fun read but not a great read if that makes sense. I call them cheeseburger books they are not good for you but the taste great.
