December TBR

I am back to blogging. November was a crazy busy month, with both work and participating in NaNoWriMo it didn’t leave me much time for anything else. I did win NaNoWriMo and I am so proud of myself. It feels great to have started my novel, it had forged itself a whole new direction and I am excited to keep working on it and building it into something readable. I also managed 5 books. While not my usual volume with everything I was doing I am still pleased I managed that! I will have a small wrap up for these later in the week.

It’s December now, which means I am on the count down to Christmas! I love this time of year. Even though this year is different for obvious reasons I am determined to make it fun and special. I have my decorations ready to be put up. Our tree (we get a real one every year from a local tree farm) is being delivered on Friday and I plan on spending a lot of the month snuggled up reading by the fairy lights with a hot chocolate and Christmas cookies. That calls for a special TBR so I have constructed a new TBR game for the Festive season.

This month I am doing the

12 Books of Bookmas

What is the 12 books of Bookmas?

Euan (my husband – check out his gaming podcast) has raided my shelves and selected 12 books I haven’t read (or finished) that he thinks, I should finally get to, or looked interesting, or had a fun title and has wrapped them so I don’t know what he has chosen.

I will be unwrapping a book and revealing what book it is over on my Instagram, reading that book before I can unwrap the next. Each time I unwrap a book I will be posting it on my Bookstagram account so make sure you follow me if you want to see my full TBR as it happens. I will be doing my usual wrap up post here too where I will talk about all the books I manage to read. Can I read all 12?

Clockwork Princess
Cassandra Clare

The Infernal Devices #3

Shadowhunter Saturdays

Yes Ellie and I are back to buddy reading. We have both been super busy over the past few months and just couldn’t find time to read the next in the Infernal devices series but we are back and ready to dive back in! I am really looking forward to seeing how this series wraps up.

Winterling
Sarah Prineas

Middle Grade Marvels

The first of two books in the Middle grade Marvels reading discussions this month. We picked the Winterling as it seems like the perfect dark wintery book to read at this time of year. A world of endless winter is surely one to get lost in, with the nights drawing ever darker and a chill in the air.

Tristan Strong punches a Hole in the Sky
Kwame Mbalia

Middle Grade Marvels

The second book in the Middle Grade Marvels discussions this month. This book had come second in a number of our polls over the months so we finally decided we just had to read it. I am really interested in the interpretation of Anansi which I have only read about in Neil Gaiman’s work before . It seems like it is going to be a really fun read.

The Devil and the Dark Water
Stuart Turton

The Write Reads Gang

A group of us in The Write reads Gang have got together to buddy read some books. This month we choose The Devil in the Dark water. I have had the beautiful Forbidden planet special edition on my shelves since it was released but I haven’t had a chance to pick it up. I loved The seven deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle especially how atmospheric it was and the almost alternative, fantasy 1920s vibe it had. I am hoping for something similar form this.

I have two amazing Blog tours with The Write reads coming up this month.

The Cousins
Karen M. McManus

The Write Reads Ultimate Blog Tour

This tour is already well underway so do go check out The Write Reads on Twitter to find all the other blogs and reviews. my review is due to go live on the 10th and I can tell you this one is going to be a very gushing review. I love McManus’ work and this is no exception.

Amari and the Night Brothers
B. B. Aeston

The Write Reads Ultimate Blog Tour

I don’t have a date for my review on this tour yet but it is going to be a huge tour! with over 100 bloggers all reading and reviewing this one. The proofs of it are beyond stunning and from the first few chapters I am already hooked. I think this one is going to be very popular on the tour.

I also have to finish off the books for the Book Blogger Novel of the Year Awards. I was really lucky to get some awesome books to assess for the awards and I can’t wait to see who wins!

So that is my TBR for December. Make sure you keep an eye out on my Instagram if you would like to find out what books have made it into the wrapped pile, and what one I will be starting with!

I would love to chat all things bookish with you! You can comment down below or find me on Twitter or Goodreads!

Happy Reading!

  1. Loved your post Fiona! I think the 12 Books of Bookmas is such a fun idea and I can’t wait to see what Euan picked, it’s going to be so fun to follow you while you unwrap them and see if you can read them all! I’m sure you can. The rest of your TBR is great and I’m really looking forward to all these books too. The Cousins was great, I loved it. Can’t wait to read your review! 🙂
