End of the Year Book Tag

Its a bit late to be doing this tag but because of my hiatus, due to NaNoWriMo it got overlooked. This tag was first created by Ariel Bissett. I have edited out a couple of questions that no longer make sense now that we are into winter (they were very autumnal based).

Questions

ARE THERE ANY BOOKS YOU STARTED THIS YEAR THAT YOU NEED TO FINISH?

To Sleep in a Sea of Stars
Christopher Paolini

Gifted finished copy

This book is a real chonker, in the best possible way but it is a very intense read. I keep picking it up reading a few pages and putting it back down again as I just haven’t been able to dedicate the time to it that I need to really get into it. I think it needs a solid few days where I can heft this beauty into my lap and finally finish off the last couple of 100 pages. I do feel bad that I haven’t managed to get through my copy of it yet as a finished copy was gifted to me by the publisher. I will make time for it soon.

The Betrayals
Bridget Collins

eARC

I have an eARC of this and I am 60% of the way though it. I am absolutely loving it. I will be jumping in to finish this ASAP. It has a really awesome Dark academia vibe with some really fascinating world building. It is really slow paced and character driven with bags of mystery and gorgeous lyrical writing. I will 100% be finishing this soon and getting my review to you soon. (spoiler its going to be good).

IS THERE A NEW RELEASE YOU’RE STILL WAITING FOR?

The Ordeal of the Haunted Room
Jodi Taylor

The Chronicles of St Mary’s 11.5

Every year Jodi Taylor writes a Christmas special short story set in the world of St Mary’s. it gets released Christmas day and I have this one on pre-order so it will be nice to dive into it while I am waiting on Christmas dinner to cook, or while I am enjoying a nice hot chocolate by the tree. I love this series and the Christ mas specials are really fun and can be read independently of the main story line so I am really looking forward to this one.

WHAT ARE THREE BOOKS YOU WANT TO READ BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR?

The Burning God
R. F. Kuang

The Poppy war #3

eARC

One of my most anticipated reads of the year and I managed to get my hands on an eARc so sods law I have not managed to find time to read it yet. I did get my hands on the absolutely gorgeous Illumicrate special editions, and I am really tempted by a re-read, which I wont have time for this year, but I also just want to dive into this one. I also have yet to actually post my review of Dragon Republic so that is another incentive to read this so I will review both of them.

The Once and Future Witches
Alix E. Harrow

eARC

Another one of my highly anticipated reads. I screamed when I got the eARC. I have started this one to be fair but it was a while ago and I put it down to focus on some ARCs that had closer release dates (such as the Invisible life of Addie La Rue) and didn’t pick it back up again. I Love Alix E. Harrows writing and I think to do this one justice I will have to restart it but It has to be read soon as I am sure it have the prospect to be one of my favourite reads of the year,

Hollowpox
Jessica Townsend

Nevermoor #3

I have had this book since its release however my copy unfortunately has printing errors and I have been waiting for a replacement copy from Waterstones to arrive. I am really looking forward to reading this one and I am hoping it will show up soon so I can get started. If not I might pick up the audio version. I loved the first two in the series and I really want to see where this story goes.

IS THERE A BOOK YOU THINK COULD STILL SHOCK YOU AND BECOME YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK OF THE YEAR?

Basically the majority of the books mentioned above. 2020 despite being a completely shit year for most has been an amazing year for books. I don’t think I could choose a single favourite out of the year and might just have to make a big list of all the amazing books I have read. Every time I think about books I have loved this year a different 5/6 pop into my mind its just been a really really good year for books.

HAVE YOU ALREADY STARTED MAKING READING PLANS FOR 2021?

I think I am going to take part in Beat the Backlist Bingo 2021 from Novel Knight to try and cull all the unread books on my shelves. I also want to try and clear my Netgalley back log so might have to add a challenge for that too.

I have lots of plans for the blog too which I will announce in my Goals blog post at the beginning of the new year. I am getting excited about all the possibilities 2021 has!
