Book of the Month

The Unbroken
C.L Clark
eARC
This was a fabulous debut. An epic military fantasy filled with political machinations, twists and turns , in depth relationships and important issues. Its a little slower paced but it is really character driven with some fantastically strong women and well structured dialogue.
WHAT I READ –

A History of What Comes Next
Sylvain Neuvel
AudioARC
This was a really interesting story and I really recommend the audio version. It was really hard to tell the difference between fact and fiction meld and the notes Neuvel gives at the end are just as fascinating as the story.

The Fellowship of the Ring
J R R Tolkien
Conquer the Classics
I had so much fun reading this. its the first time I have finished it and it was just such a good read and being part of my buddy read just made it so much more fun as we all joked and laughed.

Across the Green Grass Fields
Seanan McGuire
I really love this whole series and this was such a good instalment. Again, slower than previous books in the series but it really enjoyed the pacing and the message the book portrays about deciding your own identity.

Fire Keeper’s Daughter
Angline Boulley
AudioARC
This was another amazing debut. While I can’t comment on the representation it was really interesting to read about life and the traditions on the reservation. The mystery was interesting and it was a fun YA mystery.

Future Perfect
Felicia Yap
eARC
This was an interesting near future dystopia that was that was an interesting police procedural. I did feel it has a few to many perspectives that got a little confusing at times but overall I think if you like a good police procedural you will like this.

Bloodlust and Bonnets
Emily Mc Govern
This was a re-read for me as part of a buddy reading group that was looking to try some Graphic novels. I really enjoy McGovern’s art and that her sense of humour is awesome. The literary references in this are great.

What Abigail did that Summer
Ben Aaronovich
Were your in any doubt about what I would think about this book. Of course I loved it. I am really loving the directions the Novellas are going. That they are focusing side characters and building out the world even more. I adore this world and the more I can read about it the happier I am.

Moon over Soho
Ben Aaronovich
Thought While Re-reading – Rivers of London
This was a re-read as part of my buddy read but also my Thoughts while re-reading project. This is one of my favourite of the series so I really enjoyed getting to read it again.
Unfortunately returning to the Mortal instruments series again didn’t work out for me. I didn’t enjoy this one as Erika and Ellie did. I found that it didn’t really have much plot. Hopefully the next book will be more entertaining to me.

What Beauty There Is

The Write Reads Ultimate Blog Tour
This was an incredible bleak YA thriller that was a little bit of a mixed bag to me personally. It was beautifully written every word carefully chosen and precise. However, for me it was a little flat. it didn’t have a lot of dimension to it so the plot felt very linear.

Happy Reading!
Looks like you had a fantastic reading month, Fi! I’ve heard SO MANY GOOD THINGS about The Unbroken, I really need to read it before the hype train flies off the rails lol

I read What Beauty There Is too! I enjoyed it, but that final chapter really confused me.

Brilliant wrap up Fiona! I hope you are feeling better! I am really looking forward to starting the Rivers of London series. I bought the whole box set recently when I saw it was reduced after I’d seen it recommended so highly by you. I’ll let you know when I finally get around to it!
