WWW Wednesday – 1/9/2021

Happy Wednesday!

Its that time of the Week again! WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme that was revived by Taking on a World of Words. I like it cause it is fairly simple but allows me to check in with my reading but also with you!

WWW Wednesday asks just three questions:

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

WHAT BOOK HAVE YOU RECENTLY FINISHED?

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU WILL READ NEXT?

The collapsing Empire
John Scalzi

The Interdependency #1

As I described in my September TBR post I am diving back into some of my favourite sci-fi in aims to aid my own worldbuilding and writing. I feel reading widely in the genre you are intending to write as well as books that you know may have influenced you is a good idea to make sure you are not too directly influenced by the works.

The Winter Garden
Alexandra Bell

Physical ARC
Release date: 2/9/2021

This is such a beautiful story with an air of melancholy to it that beautifully explores grief and depression in a really gorgeous historical fantasy setting. It has a slight night circus feel to the worldbuilding of the winter garden. I will have my full review live for you very shortly.

The Hollow Heart
Marie Rutkoski

eARC
Release date: 9/9/21

Again like I said in my Sept TBR post I enjoyed the first book in this series but found the pacing of the plot to be a little off putting until the end. The end pulled me in and I had to grab the second book when I had the chance. I am looking forward to seeing how the story plays out.

So that is my WWW post for this week. I will see you next Wednesday to update you. What are you reading this week? Have you finished anything lately you loved?

I would love to chat all things bookish with you! You can comment down below or find me on Twitter or Goodreads!

Happy Reading!

  1. I just tried to look up the Winter Garden on Goodreads to add it to my TBR list and it’s not there… is it an indie author? Sounds like something I would really enjoy! For the most part I have been really into crime thrillers and murder mysteries this summer. There is something about hot weather and suspenseful page turners that always works for me. As it gets colder I tend to gravitate towards dramas… I wonder why that is?!?
I just finished a new book titled “West Texas Dead: A Kailey and Shinto Mystery” by author Frances Hight. I was searching for “buddy” detective novels and my google search led me to this book. I have always been fascinated by the dynamics of a crime fighting partner duo and I love the way this one is written. The author manages to weave a believable and gripping tale in such a flawless and realistic way that you really have to pry this thing out of your hands for a break. It’s chilling, exciting, action packed and has some dark humor as well! The main characters, Kailey and Shinto are relatable, inspiring and you root for them from start to finish. The murder case is heinous and the web they have to uncover is deep and disturbing. Also – it’s only book one of the series so I was stoked to find out that there will be more! You can read more about the author and the book here – https://www.franceshight.com/
If you do end up checking it out I would love to know your thoughts!
