In 2021 I have set myself a list of classic reads I hope to tick off my TBR. I set my self 15 books, and I have to say I somewhat failed in this challenge. I only read 5 books in total!
The Lord of the Rings Collection
The Hobbit = Read
The Fellowship of the Ring = Read
The Two Towers = Read
The Return of the King = Read
This was my major success of the year! I had read the Hobbit several times and I had started The Fellowship of the Ring time and time again but always seemed to crash out of the story when reaching the Tom Bombadil section. This time I managed to read both the Fellowship and the Two Towers with gripped interest. I even went into The return of the king eager to finish it however I again lost interest in the series when we switched from Aragorn’s side of the story back to that of Frodo’s journey. I put the book down in May 2021 and didn’t pick it back up again until December. I did finish the series though and I loved it. I may have to reread, without the 6 month break in the middle, at some point.
The Sherlock Holmes collection
A Study in Scarlett = Read
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
The Sign of the Four
The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes
Hound of the Baskervilles
The Return of Sherlock Holmes
The Valley of Fear
His Last Bow
The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes
I only actually read A study in Scarlet out of this collection and that was way back in January 2021 when I had good intentions and then failed to follow through. I do want to continue with the series and I have added the Sign of the Four to my January TBR.
Homer’s works
The Illiad
The Odyessy
These were on the list as my dad actually would tell me stories from them as a child and I always felt I should read a translation for myself. I did buy my dad’s suggested translation and I just didn’t pick them up. I definitely want to at least start them in 2022.
So there you have it. My update on how my Conquering of the Classics has been going. I don’t think I will be adding any new books to the list this year and instead I am going to try and focus on finishing the 10 books on this list.
You can read my mini reviews for those I have read and track my progress on the Conquer the Classics project page

Happy Reading!
This sounds like a great challenge to get through. I really want to read The Three Musketeers but the size of it kind of scare me ๐
