The Cat Markings Book Tag

The Cat Markings Book Tag was created by Laura @ The Corner of Laura, and I was tagged by the wonderful Kerri from Kerri McBooknerd to do this tag. Kerri is also my Blogger Friend for February and choose some amazing books from my TBR for me to read this month which you can find in my TBR post.

I love the concept of this tag. I love both Books and Cats so combining both is a fantastic Idea. I have two kitties myself both with Bookish Names. I am have little black female named Maisie.

She gets her name from a series of Scottish Picture books Maisie of Morningside by Aileen Paterson. Maisie is a cat from Morningside in Edinburgh that wears a little kilt, lives with her Granny and goes on adventures all over Scotland. I read them as a child and loved them. She is well known in Edinburgh and even features on a bus route (number 5) which goes to Morningside.

I also have a white with black splotches Tomcat named Mogget.

Mogget is named after the daemon that is trapped in the form of a White Cat from Garth Nix’s Old Kingdom series. I adore how sassy Mogget is and my Mogget, while definitely not as cunning as his bookish counter part likes to give a little sass too.

Now that i have got the excuse for cute cat pictures out of the way on to the tag itself!

The Prompts:

Black Cat Banner

Black Cats: Pick a book that doesn’t get the love it deserves.

Chronicles of St Mary’s
Jodi Taylor

This series is one of my favourites and it deserves so much more love than it gets. It is completely crazy paced, jam packed with history, action, humorous commentary as well as moments of darkness, poignant emotional scenes. I adore the cast of characters and way Taylor writes.

It reads like a monster of the week, such as Dr Who, TV series but in a single book. There are lots of little ‘episodes’ that have their own, plot, that also tie into the books plot as a whole and then to the series as a whole. That means there are so many layers of story and character development, that you cant help but get swept away with it all.

White Cat Banner

White Cats: Pick a book with great disability rep

The Unbroken
C. L. Clark

Magic of the Lost #1

This was one of my favourite reads of 2021. It has such a powerful female cast with representation piled upon representation that gave a huge diversity to the power the characters wielded. The wielding of different types of power, from physical to political are all intricately woven. The disability rep appears in the form of Luca, a perspective character whom walks with a cane.

Ginger Cat Banner

Ginger Cats: Name your favourite male character

Harry Wilson
Old man’s War
John Scalzi

Again, Old Man’s War is one of my favourite series and one that in the Book-Twitter/tube/stagram just doesn’t get enough love. While, I love the main character John Perry for me the stand out character is Harry Wilson. He is a secondary character in the main Trilogy but takes the lead in books 5 ,The Human Division, and 6, The End of All things. He is just such a great character with such a positive outlook on life and a read Dad joke sense of humour. He really rolls with the punches while also making you take a step back and look closely at humanity as a whole. I really love

Tortoiseshell Cat Banner

Tortoiseshell Cats: Name your favourite female character

Dr Madeline Maxwell (Max)
Chronicles of St Mary’s
Jodi Taylor

I have already said how much I love all thing St Mary’s and Max is a huge part of that. She is an excellent Main character. The whole series is told from her perspective and inner monologue and therefore we get all her self doubt and double guessing, her bitchy moments, emotional moments and her over confidence. I love how flawed she is, while still being so likeable, funny, sweet and sassy.

Calico Cat Banner

Calico Cats: Name a character you wish was your best friend

Hercule Poirot
Agatha Christie

I would love to be mates with Poirot. I think with his avuncular nature he would be great fun to run around solving a mystery with. All the luxury travel, high teas and cocktails while solving puzzles, finding clues and outing devious criminals under the watchful safety of Pappa Poirot seems like it would be fun.

Tabby Cat Banner

Tabby Cats: Name a character who’s the life and soul of the party

Ferius Parfax
Spellslinger
Sebastian De Castell

I adore Ferius. She is a very close 2nd for favourite female character. As she is a card shark who can hold her booze and spin a yarn like no one else I am sure she would be great fun. She is a fantastic spin on the mentor role for Kell. Her patter, over confidence and slightly magical air along with her give no fucks, take no prisoners out look to life is just fun.

A Clowder of Cats Banner (1)

A Clowder of Cats: Name your favourite fictional squad

The Folly and Co
Rivers of London
Ben Aaronovich

Was there any other choice? Again a favourite series of mine and I don’t think I could choose my favourite character out of them all. I can’t wait till book 9 comes out in April as I love reading about these characters!
