Title: Dumb Witness
Author: Agatha Christie
Series: Hercule Poirot #17
4 stars
From Goodreads:
Everyone blamed Emily Arundell’s accident on a rubber ball left on the stairs at her home in Market Basing by her frisky terrier, Bob. But the more she thought about her fall, the more convinced she became that one of her relatives was trying to kill her.
So, on April 17th she wrote about her anxieties and suspicions in a letter to Hercule Poirot. And included a request that he consult with her as soon as possible. Mysteriously he didn’t receive the letter until June 28th … by which time Emily was already dead.
My Thoughts
I really enjoyed this. Its back to a more classic Poirot Mystery, he is commissioned by a woman whom feels she is in danger, however the letter is only posted after she passed away. Everyone think’s it was natural causes but Poirot is not convinced. I really loved how many little white lies Poirot told in this one. It was a lot of fun reading about him running round telling telling everyone different stories to get them to talk and tell him all the gossip.
Hasiting’s is also back in this one and he has some really sweet interactions with Bob the dog who is the true star of this book.
