Happy Tuesday Everyone! I am making it a Tag Tuesday with another Festive Booktag.
My annual leave officially starts tomorrow and I honestly can’t wait to just sit and read for days.
This Tag was originally created by Lizzie Loves Books.
This tag is based around the song 12 Days of Christmas with each of the days representing a book. These are some really difficult questions but I am going to try and select just one book or series for each of the answers even though I could pick 5 or six for each. I am also trying to use 2022 reads to diversify my answers from last year but its difficult.
The Questions
ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE.
The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favourite stand alone this year?

The Twyford Code
Janice Hallett
My Review
About the book:
This is one of my favourite reads of the year even through I read it all the way back in January. It was just such a well crafted mystery that I just couldn’t see the twists coming. It was just such a good read that has stuck with me the whole year.
ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TWO TURTLE DOVES.
Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing this year?

The Ex Hex
Erin Sterling
About the book:
Viv and Rhys are a fantastic couple and they were so fun to read about. I was really routing for them. Even with all the magic they seemed like a really realistic couple.
ON THE THIRD DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: THREE FRENCH HENS.
In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read this year?

The God of Lost Words
A. J Hackwith
My Review
About the book:
One of the only trilogies I have finished this year. I haven’t read a lot of final books in series this year and this was the only trilogy. I really loved this series and was sad to see it draw to a close but it was such a fitting ending for the characters too.
ON THE FOURTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FOUR CALLING BIRDS.
Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favourite series this year?

A Catalogue of Catastrophe
Jodi Taylor
My Review
About the book:
Chronicles of St Mary’s is one of my favourite series it is just filled with humour, moments of sheer panic and then those quiet moments that make you love these characters so much. I can’t wait for the next instalment.
ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FIVE GOLDEN RINGS.
One ring to rule them all! Who is your favourite Villain/Antagonist this year?

The King is Dead
Benjamin Dean
My Review
About the book:
The obvious villain in this is the British Media. I can’t say who the real villain is as it will spoil the mystery aspect of this book but they are outshined with how devious and dark the media are in this book and the sad thing is it is really a true representation of the British media particularly in their treatment of POC and LGBTQIA+ individuals. This aspect made this book really interesting to read.
ON THE SIXTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SIX GEESE A LAYING.
Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favourite world/world-building this year?

Her Majesty’s Royal Coven
Juno Dawson
My Review
About the book:
I loved loved loved the magic system in this book and how it integrated into our world. I also adored the set up of the female friendships in this book. They felt so authentic. I also loved that the women were older, with all the 90s references etc.
ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SEVEN SWANS A SWIMMING.
Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favourite animal sidekick this year?
I haven’t read any books that have animal side kicks this year.
ON THE EIGHTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: EIGHT MAIDS A MILKING.
Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?

book
author
series
About the book:
This book will make you look at coffee and cinnamon rolls, biscotti and pain au chocolat in a whole new scrumptious light. The food descriptions are just too delicious
ON THE NINTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: NINE LADIES DANCING.
Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favourite kickass female lead this year?

The Cartographers
Peng Shepard
My Review
About the book:
Nell was just such a real feeling character. I loved her story, her reactions, her determination. I loved the moments where she lost herself and how she found herself again. It really drew me into this fantastic tale. Another favourite read of the year.
ON THE TENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TEN LORDS A LEAPING.
How about your favourite leading lad this year?

This was one of the most unique yet brilliant books I have read all year and I read it in January 2022. It is all set around a Rave themed VR RPG game and it is just so much fun.
