The Christmas Stocking Book Tag

Its time for another Tag Tuesday and I have another fun Festive tag for you today! This one was created by Kate at Reading through Infinity. I think this is a really lovely tag taking you through a whole story. I am basing my answers on my 2022 finished book so hopefully you will find some fun additions to your TBR.

The Questions

You get up on Christmas morning and your stocking is full! You take it down and start to unwrap the treats inside. The first thing you see is…

AN ORANGE! WHICH BOOK IS REFRESHING AND VIBRANT, BOTH INSIDE AND OUT?

Legends and Lattes
Travis Baldree

My Review

About the book:

This was such a different and refreshing take on an epic fantasy it is cozy and relaxed with really fun and detailed characters. All the description are gorgeous too. Also I love both the original self published cover and this new cover. I love how the cover had a chalkboard theme as it ties into the story so beautifully too.

THE NEXT THING YOU SEE IS A BAG OF CHOCOLATE COINS. (YUM) WHICH BOOK HAVE YOU RECENTLY BOUGHT THAT WAS EXPENSIVE, BUT TOTALLY WORTH THE HIGH PRICE?

Fairy Loot Mortal Editions – The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
Taylor Jenkins Reid

About the book:

Ok this cost a lot of money for a single hardback with slip case and it wont even ship until Feb/Mar 2023 but I adored this book and have re-read it a couple of times so I just couldn’t pass but such a gorgeous special edition. The gold edges with the green cover its just so pretty.

YOU ALSO PULL OUT A BATH BOMB. TELL US ABOUT A BOOK THAT HAD EXPLOSIVE ACTION SCENES.

The Kaiju Preservation Society
John Scalzi

My Review

About the book:

It literally had explosive action, nuclear explosion action… with Kaiju! I really enjoyed this book, it was just pure escapism.

NEXT IS A PACK OF PLAYING CARDS. WHICH SERIES WON YOU OVER?

The Night Raven
Sarah Painter

My Review

About the book:

I picked up this series on a whim as I kept seeing it advertised on Amazon and I was pleasantly surprised. It had a great balance of action and investigation with a great main character. I have been itching to start the 2nd in the series and I now have my hands on it so it may be one of my first reads of 2023

YOU ALSO GET A CANDLE. WHICH CHARACTER IS A SYMBOL OF HOPE IN THEIR STORY?

The Tick and the Tock of the Crocodile Clock
Kenny Boyle

My Review

About the book:

This whole book has a hopeful vibe to me it is both incredibly funny (at least to me, but I have known Kenny for years and expected his sense of humour to shine through) but also incredibly emotional. The way this book dealt with depression and social anxiety was just so moving, yet the hope still shone through.

THERE ARE SOCKS INSIDE TOO. IS THERE A BOOK THAT YOU THINK REALLY ENCOMPASSES ALL THE DISTINCTIVE TROPES OF ITS GENRE?

The Bullet That Missed
Richard Osman

My Review

About the book:

These are full of all your murder mystery, cozy mystery, spy thriller tropes but in the best possible way. I think Osman knows exactly what he is creating when he uses all these tropes and he has created something that is just fun to read.

THERE’S ALSO A NOTEBOOK. WHICH AUTHOR’S WRITING PROCESS DO YOU FIND MOST INTERESTING/INSPIRING?

This year I joined the Edinburgh Sci-Fi and Fantasy Writers group and I have taken so much inspiration from all of the members I have spoken to. They all are at different stages of their writing and they all have very different processes and learning how others attack their own writing has really helped me with my own.

THERE’S ALSO A SMALL BEDSIDE CLOCK. WHICH BOOK TOOK YOU A LONG TIME TO PICK UP BUT WAS WORTH IT IN THE END?

Doing Time
The Time Police
Jodi Taylor

My Review

About the book:

I honestly cannot tell you why it took me years to pick up the Time Police Series considering how much I love The Chronicles of St Mary’s series, of which it is a spin-off. I just finished book 1 this month and I am starting book 2 ASAP as I love it just as much as the original series.

I would love to chat all things bookish with you! You can comment down below or find me on Twitter or Goodreads!
