My Favourite Reads 2020

2020 is coming to an end and it might have been the strangest year in all of our lives but it was a damn fantastic one for books. I managed to read so many amazing books this year that I just couldn’t choose a single favourite. Therefore, I have a list of my top reads determined by those that were rated via my E.S.C.A.P.E. rating system that received a score of 50 or above and then a list of books that I wrote mini reviews for (middle grades and books under 300 pages).

Top Books with E.S.C.A.P.E Score over 50

BONE SHARD DAUGHTER – 56
THE UNLIKELY ESCAPE OF URIAH HEEP – 55
THE SPACE BETWEEN WORLDS – 53
THE COUSINS -52
DEAD MAN IN A DITCH – 52
ROYAL ASSASSIN – 52
THE FINAL EMPIRE – 51
WOMAN IN CABIN 10 – 51
THE LAST EMPEROX – 51
THE LAST SIMLE IN SUNDER CITY – 50
THE GHOST TREE – 50
THE DARK ARCHIVE -50

Nine out of these 12 were 2020 releases, which I was beyond lucky to have ARCs for. Four Authors were debut authors this year, Andrea Stewart, H.G. Parry, Micaiah Johnson and Luke Arnold, who made the list twice! Some old favourites also returned with John Scalzi, Christina Henry, Genevieve Cogman and Karen M. McManus all bring out fab new books this year. I then finally picked up some poplar reads such as the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb and Branden Sanderson’s Mistborn series.

Top 10 Mini Review Books

MIDDLE GRADE BOOKS

AMARI AND THE NIGHT BROTHERS
THE BEAST AND THE BETHANY
THE SHIP OF SHADOWS
PAGES AND CO SERIES
THE POLAR BEAR EXPLORERS’ CLUB

I read a lot of Middle Grade this year thanks to some Amazing tours from the write reads blog tours and because I joined the Middle Grade Marvels book club. All of these books were awesome, filled with wonder and escapism. They are books that can be enjoyed by all ages.

Shorter Reads

HOGFATHER
GUARDS! GUARDS!
AYOADE ON TOP
ARTIFICIAL CONDITION
THE HOLLOW

I good mix of genres in this list. Pratchett and Ayoade made me laugh while The Murder bot series is just excellent! and there is sometimes nothing better than a goof Christie mystery and in my opinion The Hollow is one of the best.

So those are my top reads of the Year. Again, I do think it was one of the best years for books. I can’t wait to see what 2021 has in store for us. I have lots of plans which will be posted from the 1st. I will have my full yearly wrap up on Thursday too.

I would love to know what your favourite read was this year and to chat all things bookish with you! You can comment down below or find me on Twitter or Goodreads!

Happy Reading!
