Tsundoku Taming – January Wrap-up

As I said in my 2022 Bookish Goals Post I am really keen on cutting down my owned TBR. I currently have

309 Books

(Since writing my first post I found my collection of Naomi Novik books on a shelf I forgot to scan so my initial number went up since I first reported it! Yikes)

I want to reduce that as much as possible, I am aiming for at least 50% of the books I read this year to be from my owned books. I have aimed to do this through a series of Blog projects such as

CONQUER THE CLASSICS
AGATHA CHRISTIE MYSTERIES

and the new for 2022:

TERRY PRATCHETT PROJECT
The A-Z Challenge
Friends Pick My TBR

BOOKS HAULED

I added 9 Books in January. I have read 5 of those books already so that means only 4 have been added to my TBR list.

That gives me a total of 313 books on my TBR shelf.

You can read all about the books I hauled this month in my January Book Haul post

WRAP-UP STATS

5 STARS: 4

4.5 STARS: 1

4 STARS: 2

3.5 STARS: 1

3 STARS: 3

Book of the Month

The Twyford Code
Janice Hallett

Rating: 5 out of 5.

eARC

This is the highest ESCAPE score I have ever given a book since I created the review system. I adored how twisty and and subtly complex this mystery was. You can find all my spoiler free thoughts in My Review

WHAT I READ –

Out of the 11 books I read 6 of them were ARCs. I am not going to talk about the ARCs I read this month in this post you can find all of them in my State of the ARC Wrap up including my star ratings and reviews.

TERRY PRATCHETT PROJECT

Wyrd Sisters
Terry Pratchett

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Pratchett’s retelling of Macbeth combined with corruption of Fairy tales of evil witches and lost princes. It is as usual filled with Pratchett’s astute observations, perfect wordplay and sardonic humour. More detailed thoughts can be found in My Review

AGATHA CHRISTIE MYSTERIES

The ABC Murders
Agatha Chrsitie

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Hercule Poirot #13

I loved this Poirot Adventure. He is on the hunt of a Serial Killer which is so different from other Poirot stories I have read so far. Here is My Review

A Murder is Announced
Agatha Chrsitie

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Ms Marple #5

Another fun Ms Marple novel, this time actually containing Ms Marple! This one was filled with such fun and pompous characters that it just made me giggle. You can read my thoughts HERE

FRIENDS PICK MY TBR

The Iron King
Julie Kagawa

Rating: 3 out of 5.

The Iron Fey #1
Chosen By Dave from The Write Reads

Ok I didn’t manage to get to both books Dave Challenged me to read but I did read this one and it was really enjoyable. Very classic YA but still a fun read. You can find out my full thoughts in My Review

OTHER READS

Monday Monday
Ben Aaronovitch

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Rivers of London Graphic Novels Vol 9

I always like to start the year off with a cheeky wee Graphic Novel and as this is one of my favourite series and it was released in Dec 2021 and given to me as a Christmas present this was a perfect read to start the year off with! You can read my review HERE

While I didn’t manage to finish any of my A-Z Challenge books before this post went live I have started Among Thieves and I am about 40% of the way through it with hopes of finishing it on the 1st. I also didn’t read anything from my Conquer the Classics Book list so I must try and fix that next month. I will be carrying Both the A-Z Challenge and the unread Friend picks my TBR books on to Next months TBR to make sure I read them.

One thing I am proud of is I have managed to review every book I have read this month! which I think is awesome. I still need to upload most of them to Goodreads which I am hoping to do later this week, but they can all be found either linked above or in my State of the ARC wrap up.

So how are the Numbers looking?

By adding in my hauled books I was sitting at 313 Books on my TBR shelves. I have read 5 Books off those shelves this month giving me a total of

308 Books

remaining on my TBR shelves. A net of -1 book! Which is in the right direction at least even if its not by very much! Lets hope that as February is a less ARC heavy month and as I don’t have as many pre-orders that I will get more books in my Backlog read next month!

I would love to chat all things bookish with you! You can comment down below or find me on Twitter or Goodreads!

Happy Reading!

  1. I can’t imagine having that many books that I haven’t read. I think my current total of owned books that are on my TBR is 8 with another 15 on my NetGalley shelf. Well done for reducing down by a bit. Good luck with rest of it 😃
