Friends Pick My TBR – Blogger spotlight

This is another part of my new TBR project. I am wanting to get on top of my backlist in 2022 and I thought It would also be a fun idea to do that while also getting to promote some of my Favourite Bloggers.

There was a Instagram template floating around at the end of 2021 that inspired this idea. It asked for 12 people to recommend a book. This looked like fun but I didn’t want to have to buy 12 new books. Instead I wanted to twist the idea to help me cull my back list. So I changed it up a little and I have decided to have 12 blogger friends pick my TBR for me. One each month. I have asked them to select two books from my collection of 297 unread books and in this post I will introduce you to them, their awesome blog and then about the books they picked for me to read this month.

About The Write Reads

This months friend picking my TBR is Dave the founder of The Write Reads!

The Write Reads is a book blogger collective and Blog Tour group founded by Dave. He runs a Blogger uplift every Weekday on Twitter with the Blog of the Day and Review of the Day. I wouldn’t have got as far as I have with this book blog if it wasn’t for Dave and the amazing collection of Book Bloggers he has brought together. I have made some amazing bookish friends while I have been associated with TWR and got to read some amazing books as part of the blog tours.

Dave and the team also have the best Book Tours out there. From the Ultimate Tours with a huge mix of genres including YA giants like Karen M. McManus’s Cousins/You’ll be the death of me, to the regular tours where you can find al sorts of indie published gems.

Speaking of Indie books, The Write Reads also runs the Book Blogger Novel of the Year awards. Sponsored by the Folio Society this award has just finished up its 2nd year and we are about to embark on the winners tours over the next couple of months. I was lucky not only to take part but to be a Team leader this year. We got to read some amazing books over the past 12 months. Not only is it an amazing way to promote and find new and interesting indie authors and publishers but also had fun prizes and giveaways for the Bloggers taking part. I am looking forward to the Top 10 and Winners tour.

So I let Dave loose on my huge owned TBR pile and this is what he choose…

The Queen of the Tearling
Erika Johansen

The Queen of the Tearling #1

Why it was Picked:
Dave -“Read it, enjoyed it, but I don’t feel it is any better than any number of indie books from indie authors writing in a similar field. Nonetheless it was super popular and was a pretty good read.”

What the book is about:
Her throne awaits . . . if she can live long enough to take it.
It was on her nineteenth birthday that the soldiers came for Kelsea Glynn. They’d come to escort her back to the place of her birth – and to ensure she survives long enough to be able to take possession of what is rightfully hers.
But like many nineteen-year-olds, Kelsea is unruly, has high principles and believes she knows better than her elders. Unlike many nineteen-year-olds, she is about to inherit a kingdom that is on its knees – corrupt, debauched and dangerous.
Kelsea will either become the most fearsome ruler the kingdom has ever known . . . or be dead within the week.

The Iron King
Author

The Iron Fey #1

Why it was Picked:
Dave – “Buddy read this with somebody. A great book for an author looking to get into YA fantasy to read.”

What the book is about:
In less than twenty-four hours, I’ll be sixteen. Countless stories, songs and poems have been written about this wonderful age, when a girl finds true love and the stars shine for her and the handsome prince carries her off into the sunset.
I DON’T THINK IT WILL BE THAT WAY FOR ME.

Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan Chase’s life, ever since her father disappeared when she was six. Ten years later, when her little brother also goes missing, Meghan learns the truth—she is the secret daughter of a mythical faery king and a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she’ll go to save someone she loves, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face…and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

So there are Dave’s Choices! So interesting Both have been on my TBR pile for years and both are part of series where I own all the books but haven’t started them. I even have an eARC of The Iron Sword which is book 2 in the companion series so I really should be reading them!
Dave Suggests I should try and Buddy read the Iron King! (Awesome suggestion) so if anyone would like to read or re-read this book/series with me let me know I would love to start it with you!

Thanks again to Dave for allowing me to make him guinea pig for this new project. I am really excited to start the reads. You can find out what I think of them in my reviews and end of month wrap up!

I would love to chat all things bookish with you! You can comment down below or find me on Twitter or Goodreads!

Happy Reading!
