For today’s Blogmas post I dug out an oldy but a goodie for this one. This one that originated with Girl reading back in 2015. I just thought the questions were fun.
I am aiming to answer these questions with my 2022 reads but there are a couple of questions that I think will probably have the same answers as last year.
The Questions
1) A FICTIONAL FAMILY YOU WOULD LIKE TO SPEND CHRISTMAS DINNER WITH?

Max, Peterson, Markham and the crew of St Mary’s
Chronicles of St Mary’s
Jodi Taylor
About the book:
I would love to have Christmas at St Mary’s. Every year we get a fun Christmassy based caper with the disaster magnets Max, Peterson and Markham and I think it would be great fun to tag a long even when it seems like the shit hits the fan they always seem to end up safe and sound with a fun story to tell. It would also be so fun to experience historical Christmases.
2) A BOOKISH ITEM YOU WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE AS A GIFT?
I love all kinds of bookish items, from book marks to fandom items such as mugs, pin badges, scarves, t-shirts, tote bags the list can go on and on. I loved home made bookish items too. Euan (my husband – check out his videogaming podcast here) is amazing at picking out bookish gifts based on all my favourite reads so hopefully there are a few goodies under the tree this year. But books themselves are always the best presents.
3) A FICTIONAL CHARACTER YOU THINK WOULD MAKE A PERFECT CHRISTMAS ELF?

Gen
The Thief
Megan Whalen Turner
My Review
About the book:
Gen is such a cunning trickster of a character that is light on his feet able to slip in and out of places undetected. He is also good at spinning stories and keeping secrets. I think if he was to reform his ways he would make a very good Christmas elf instead of a sneak thief
4) MATCH A BOOK TO IT’S PERFECT CHRISTMAS SONG.

Murderbot Diaries
Martha Wells
Matched with A Spaceman Came Traveling by Chris de Burgh
Ok I had a bit of fun with this one. A Spaceman came travelling it the most ridiculous and weird Christmas song ever (honestly if you don’t know it look it up on Youtube) But it does fit perfectly with the Murderbot diaries which is a series that centres around a cyborg trying to find himself traveling through space to find answers. I really love this series and I am hoping Santa might bring me the next one.
Here are my reviews for Book 1, Book 2 and Book 3, Book 4, Book 5, Book 6
5) BAH HUMBUG. A BOOK OR FICTIONAL CHARACTER YOU’VE BEEN DISAPPOINTED IN AND SHOULD BE PUT ON THE NAUGHTY LIST?

Link
The Island
M.A. Bennet
My Review
About the book:
Oh dear oh dear Link is an awful character and this book was such a disappointment. My main problem is that Link doesn’t really learn anything, or what he did learn didn’t come across the way I think Bennet intended. Instead I found myself cringing. My lowest rated book of the year
6) A BOOK OR A FICTIONAL CHARACTER YOU THINK DESERVES MORE LOVE AND APPRECIATION AND DESERVE TO BE PUT ON THE NICE LIST?

Nell Young
The Catrographers
Peng Shepard
About the book:
I loved this book and Nell as a character and while it did have a bit of a buzz when it first came out I feel it kind of disappeared and I think it is just such a good read, especially if you are a bookish person. This was both such a magical and emotional book, with lots of mystery too.
7) RED, GOLD AND GREEN. A BOOK COVER THAT HAS A WONDERFULLY CHRISTMASY FEEL TO IT.

Death and Papa Noel
Ian Moore
A Follet Valley Short Story
About the book:
I have only just started this as part of my Christmas Mystery reading but I am enjoying it and the cover just screams Christmas so it had to be the entry for this question. It has everything the red, the green, a Christmas Cracker and and even a little hint and ‘Papa Noel’ himself.
8) A BOOK OR SERIES YOU LOVE SO MUCH, YOU WANT EVERYONE TO FIND UNDER THEIR CHRISTMAS TREE THIS YEAR SO THEY CAN READ IT AND LOVE IT TOO?

Rivers of London
Ben Aaronovich
Rivers of London
I will always say Rivers of London for this kind of question. It is one of my favourite series of all time and will probably continue to push it into peoples hands for years to come. I loved the re-read I did this year as part of a buddy read, and I can’t wait to read Winter’s Gifts which comes out in June 2023.
