From Goodreads:
In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety.
But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern.
On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid — a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.” Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is.
But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it’s up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.
My Thoughts
I am officially a fan of all things Murderbot! Murderbot is just an endearing and likeable character for the mass murdering machine that it is. The whole story is told through the perspective of this AI and it is just an awesome read! I love that all Murderbot wants in its life is a quiet space to watch its TV Soaps. Its introvert nature and social awkwardness just made me, sympathise with it so much. It made me chuckle a few times too. Honestly Murderbot might be one my favourite characters of the year so far. I was want to keep reading all about them. I am a sucker for a sassy Robot/AI. Having that as an inner monologue is just super interesting.
Combined with this great narration, we have an astonishing amount of detailed world building and a fantastic action packed plot with a hint of mystery to it. Overall I just really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to continue in Murderbot’s adventures.
Isn’t Murderbot such a great character? Sarcastic AI is one of my favourite things.

I adore sassy AI, sarcastic AI even despondent AI. Growing up with Marcin the paranoid Android and KryTen from Red dwarf Def effected my reading choices.
